So I was mad at this assignment my script teacher gave me. Basically, the guy hates horror movies so of course he hated my horror script pitch. Despite the fact that it's been a recurring nightmare I've had for the past fifteen years and I've been developing it for about two, he says I don't know my story enough. If he'd quit interrupting me for more than 5 seconds, I could actually explain the story to him.
Now, when I pitched the script, it was simply an idea. Since pitching the script, my characters, most of them anyway, have done a complete 180. My story has changed drastically, it no longer revolves around the zombie character, but revolves around the love triangle between my three main characters. The zombie just kills and provides the horror.
So part of this script beat sheet assignment, besides doing the beats for Acts I, II and III for my own personal script, I had to beat a different existing movie. I picked "My Bloody Valentine" from 1981 because of the horror story and the love triangle. I thought it was stupid, but it has helped me to shape my story so much and give the middle, Act II, more meaning than it ever could have had before.
So basically, good assignment. I'm pleased.
